The Cedar Mesa area was well populated not too long ago by the Anasazis. The maze of canyons and mesas made a challenging place to live and raise subsistance crops, but they obviously did pretty well for a while. The middle section of Mule Canyon has a ruin about every mile, some of them perched on ledges or tucked into alcoves for protection, and some of them not.
